Kiwanis X-mas Party

Hello, fellow Kiwanians!

Just a couple of quick notes....

1) Board of Directors meet this Thursday at Nicky's at 12:00. Regular members are welcome to come out to voice comments, concerns, etc.

2) The Annual Madison Kiwanis Christmas Party is Tuesday, December 9th! This is a change from your printed schedule. Jenn Richards and the Madison High School Choir will be entertaining us that day and Drew and Carol are whipping up something special!

3) If you'd like to volunteer for the "Read to Me" core project, please let Mary Snyder know ASAP... I took some good pictures from today's meeting/work session and I'll get those posted tonight or tomorrow.

Thanks and we'll see you next Tuesday!

A word of advice...

The key to surviving Kiwanis Pancake Day is MODERATION... in other words...

See Matt.

See Matt lose a lot of weight.

See Matt try to eat his weight in pancakes.

See Matt get stuffed stupid.

In other words, don't be a Matt. I'll eat again sometime this century!

Oops!

Penni told me she couldn't post on this blog, so I changed some settings so everyone can now post.

That's what happens when you put together the blog with your girlfriend looking over your shoulder! LOL

Pancake Day is Coming!

Hello, fellow Kiwanians!

Just a brief reminder that Pancake Day is NEXT TUESDAY! Got your spatulas ready?

Remember to get your money in to Lori by Tuesday. If you need more tickets (I'm talking to you, Gerry!), please contact Lori, Joanne, Sid, or Vickie.

If you'd like to volunteer to work the afternoon (11-2) or evening (4:30-7:00) shift, please let Sid know, if you haven't signed up already.

We have advertisements running on KJAM radio, and we'll also have a live broadcast from the Armory. Ads will be running in the Daily Leader up through Tuesday.

This'll be fun and I'll bring my camera so we can have pictures for the website.

See you on Tuesday! And bring your appetites!

What is a Kiwanian?

Taken from the Kiwanis International website...

Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to changing the world, one child and one community at a time.

Kiwanis Name
The name “Kiwanis” means “we trade” or “we share our talents.” It was coined from an American Indian expression, Nunc Kee-wanis.

Kiwanians are volunteers changing the world through service to children and communities. Kiwanis members help shelter the homeless, feed the hungry, mentor the disadvantaged, and care for the sick. They develop youth as leaders, build playgrounds, raise funds for pediatric research, and much more. No problem is too big or too small. Why? Because working together, members achieve what one person cannot accomplish alone. When you give a child a chance to learn, experience, dream, and succeed, great things happen!

As Kiwanis clubs and members, we see it everyday!

Membership

  • About 8,000 clubs in 96 countries
  • More than 260,000 adult members
  • Approximately 320,000 youth

Mission

To serve children of the world.

Service
Each year, clubs:

  • Sponsor nearly 150,000 service projects.
  • Raise more than $107 million.

Global Results

Members and clubs have contributed more than $80 million toward the global elimination of iodine deficiency disorders (IDD), the leading preventable cause of mental retardation.

Welcome!

Welcome to the official weblog, or "blog," for the Madison, South Dakota chapter of Kiwanis International!

In this blog, we will keep not only our member up-to-date on goings-on in the chapter, but also promote our activities to the general public.

So why a blog and not a regular website? Well, a blog allows for more communication, sharing of ideas if you will. It's a more dynamic tool for posting pictures, answering questions, and frankly keeping readers like you updated.

We can post the latest meeting minutes for the board of directors, post the upcoming program schedules, just about anything and everything.

If you have any ideas or suggestions, please feel free to let me know. Just e-mail me at madisonkiwanis@gmail.com.

Enjoy!
